Word-bank notes, teaching levels and sources
Sound → words
Sound matches are explicitly assigned in a curated Hauora word bank, rather than guessed from letter substrings. A sound can have several spellings. Sound labels use classroom notation and cue words, not a full IPA transcription. The ure family is accent-dependent; ear and air often merge in New Zealand speech. Check the pronunciation used in your class.
Class year suggests a word level; it does not assess a learner. These level labels are teaching suggestions, not official year-by-year attainment standards. “Up to this word level” includes easier words when needed, with harder matches selected first. Choose “This word level only” to keep the challenge strict.
Word structure
Older learners can practise prefixes, suffixes and Greek/Latin roots. These sets support spelling and vocabulary teaching through Year 8. They do not constitute a complete English curriculum. Sound and morphology entries are Hauora-added practice material; they have not been independently specialist-validated.
Book sequence
Book examples are the words to blend or focus words listed in your five supplied Ready to Read documents. This route preserves all 87 small-book points. Its cumulative order is the suggested book sequence, not a check that a child has mastered every phoneme. Optional additional practice is labelled separately.
Pictures are illustrative: establish the intended word before picture-only practice. Older classes default to word cards when you change their year. No student information is entered or collected.
